On August 15, OPIC Chief Investment Officer Jay Koh joined IFC Chief Investment Officer and Manager David Wilton for a live webcast session on emerging market private equity.
Last week, during a live webcast entitled Emerging Market Private Equity – Part 1: “A Growth Story,” OPIC’s Chief Investment Strategist Jay Koh highlighted ways to be successful in emerging market private equity. Koh and International Finance Corporation Chief Investment Officer and Manager David Wilton hosted the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) sponsored webcast, which attracted nearly 100 active participants.
Throughout his presentation, Koh emphasized that among OPIC’s lessons learned in this area, investors should have an affirmative asset allocation plan and investment strategy that is periodically reviewed and updated; a comprehensive manager selection methodology and due diligence process; and an active asset management and investment monitoring program. Koh also stressed the need for investors to remain “active, active, active.”
The ILPA webcast was the first of a five-part series that will explore the opportunities and risks inherent in emerging market private equity. Subsequent webcasts will examine specific regions, including Latin America, Emerging Asia, Eastern Europe & Russia, Africa and the Middle East. The ILPA Webcast Series, launched in 2007, provides members with a platform from which to discuss topical and relevant issues impacting the industry, in timely and accessible format.
