Warrior Weekend Program
Providing Weekends of Rest and Relaxation for America's Wounded Heroes
The mission of the Warrior Weekend Program is to provide a weekend of rest, relaxation and fun for those wounded heroes, and their spouses and families, who are stationed at Military Medical Centers, recovering from wounds sustained in Iraq and Afghanistan. The idea behind the program is to get these heroes and their families out of the hospital environment and place them in a relaxed and enjoyable setting for a weekend. During the weekend, we schedule activities for them, but the choice is theirs to participate or just relax and reconnect with their families.
The normal operation of the Program is to pick up the troops on Friday at noon, take them to a resort area on the east coast for a weekend of fun and relaxation. They are put up in major hotels or motels with their own rooms. They are taken to top quality restaurants, shown a good time and different events are scheduled for their entertainment, if they are interested. If some of the troops would rather just spend time relaxing and being together, that is their choice. The weekend is theirs to enjoy and at no cost to them. After spending the weekend, they are transported back to their duty station on Sunday evening.
How can you help?
This Program is small and personal and there are no plans to make the Program into a large operation. There are no employees in this Program, we are all volunteers. All funds raised for this program go 100% to the Program. The key feature of the Program is that it is self sustaining and self supporting. The Program operates with the donations received from various individuals, companies, corporations and various veterans’ organizations. The Program completes on average seven weekend trips each year. We have brightened the lives of many of these troops and their families, aided in their recovery process, and have made many friends. Anyone interested in making a donation to support this program may do so by sending a check made out to Warrior Weekend Program and mailing the check to: Warrior Weekend Corporation P O Box 63 Harbeson, DE 19951 You can also donate online by visiting our Donate Page. The Warrior Weekend Program is a 501(c)3 corporation and all donations are tax deductible and an acknowledgement letter will be provided for all donations regardless of the amount. Anyone interested in additional information may contact Jim Lafferty at 302-354-3362 or via email at lafferty34@verizon.net. |
Special Note
The Warrior Weekend Program is not associated with either the Wounded Warrior Project or The Warrior Weekend Foundation. We do not have an executive board or a large paid staff. The Administration and management of the Warrior Weekend Program is conducted entirely by volunteers. They are not employees. Every dollar received goes 100% directly to the program and the care and welfare of our wounded heroes. We do not discriminate as to the nature and/or circumstances of injury, unit of assignment or awards received. We are truly unique in that we do not want to fill a bus or an airplane with personnel. We would rather fill a van. In that way, we can be more personal and get to know the troops and their families by their first names. Special Thanks to:
