RIC-WHF Military Sports Camp is designed for injured military personnel with a primary physical disability. Introductory level athletes are invited to learn from elite level coaches while enjoying all that Chicago has to offer. All local ground transportation, lodging, meals, and program activities will be provided to military personnel at no cost.

All individuals who have or are currently serving in the US Armed Forces and now have a primary physical disability are welcome to apply. 2016 camp participants represented every military branch and came from 20 states.

The 2017 Military Camp will be held July 6-10, 2017.

FAQ

Q: What does FREE entail?

A: Covered costs include a flight to/from Chicago (thanks to the support of United Airlines) or a travel reimbursement if travelling by train, bus or other means of transit; hotel; food; local transportation; sports equipment & instruction; select Chicago tourism activities and more.

Q: Do I qualify if I have PTSD?

A: Many of our camp attendees have a diagnosis of PTSD. However, as we are a physical rehabilitation hospital, applicants must also have a primary physical disability of some type to qualify.

Q: What if I need a caregiver?

A: There is a spot on the camp application for caregiver information. You will apply along with your caregiver. If accepted to camp, your caregiver is part of that acceptance and will be covered the same as you (they will also get a flight, hotel, food, transportation, etc.). Applicants must provide their own caregiver. RIC cannot provide caregivers. Please note: caregivers are covered/accepted for medical/ADL needs only. If you have questions about a specific situation or need, please feel free to contact Aimee Gottlieb or 312-238-5010.

Q: Does it matter where I live?

A: It does not matter where you currently reside so long as you served or are serving in the US Armed Forces.

Q: Does it matter when or where I was injured?

A: No, the application process is open to anyone who has served in the US Armed Forces and now has a physical disability of any kind.

Q: Should I be descriptive in my application?

A: YES – The selection process heavily takes into account each applicant’s reasons for wanting to attend camp as well as their goals for what they would like to get out of camp.

Q: What if I have questions about camp or need assistance completing the application?

A: Please contact Aimee Gottlieb or call 312-238-5010.
