Department of Interior

The U.S. Department of the Interior protects America’s natural resources and heritage, honors our cultures and tribal communities, and supplies the energy to power our future. The Department of the Interior has a solemn responsibility to uphold the Federal Government’s unique government-to-government relationship with federally recognized American Indian Tribes and Alaska Natives. Department of the Interior Strategic Plan for 2011-2016 identifies a mission area to advance government-to-government relationships with Indian Nations and honor commitments to Insular Areas.  This mission is accomplished through coordinated efforts between the Department’s bureaus and office, other Federal agencies, and relationships with Tribes.  The department also carries out the Secretary’s responsibilities for U.S. affiliated insular areas.
