McMorris Rodgers Statement on President's Budget Delay

February 4, 2013

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement today in response to President Obama’s failure to submit a Fiscal Year 2014 budget on time:

“Today – for the fourth time in the last five years – President Obama failed to meet his legal obligation to deliver a budget to Congress. I am disappointed by his inaction and even more concerned about what it means for the future of our economy. Both the President and Democratic Senate have let the American people down by failing in their most basic governing responsibility: budgeting.

“The American people deserve better – Washington Democrats should do the job they were elected to do.

“All across this country, hardworking Americans create budgets to set priorities and live within their means. It’s time for Washington to do the same, which is why House Republicans will bring legislation to the floor this week requiring the President to show when he plans to balance the budget.

“The longer a budget is delayed, the more Washington holds back the rest of the country from hiring new workers and investing in new projects. Too many people are out of work – it’s time for the President to come to the table with a budget. House Republicans have done their job and continue to do their job – now it’s time for the President to do the same. It’s time for a plan.”
