The Office of Standards Evaluation
and Development (CG-REG) is a key enabler for the Coast Guard’s
Regulatory Development Program (RDP).
CG-REG provides project management and economic and environmental analyses
in coordination with other RDP partners and in support of program offices
which oversees the relevancy of regulations for their respective Coast Guard
mission.
CG-REG's main RDP partner is the Office of
Regulations and Administrative Law (CG-0943), which provides legal expertise
and project counsels for all Coast Guard regulatory and related actions. CG-REG also leads Coast Guard efforts at the
International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Facilitation
Committee (FAL) and coordinates Coast Guard efforts in industry consensus standards development and integration into our regulations.CG-REG
contains two divisions. CG-REG-1, Standards Evaluation & Analysis
Division, is responsible for evaluating the economic and environmental
impact of a rulemaking action initiated by the Coast Guard. CG-REG-2, the
Project Management Division, is responsible for reviewing requests for
rulemaking project initiations, the review of legacy
projects for continued viability, and the development of performance measurement
processes and tools to advance the regulations for publication.
