186th Air Refueling Wing

The 186th Air Refueling Wing's KC-135 Stratotanker mission is to provide the core aerial refueling capability for the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. This unique aircraft enhances the Air Force's capability to accomplish its primary missions of Global Reach and Global Power. It also provides aerial refueling support to Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft. The KC-135 is capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations.

<p>As you can imagine, the last person to handle an aircraft before it actually takes off bears an immense responsibility to make absolutely certain that the plane is mission ready. That person is the Aerospace Maintenance Specialist. In this job, you'll be accountable for ensuring the aircraft is in perfect working order. If alterations or repairs are needed, you'll assign specialists to fix the issues and work with them to ensure the plane's safety and readiness. Pre-flight, you'll give the plane one last inspection to make sure it's serviced with fuel, hydraulic fluid and liquid oxygen before giving it your final approval. As an Aerospace Propulsion Specialist in the Air National Guard, your work is all about engines and making sure they never give less than perfection. You'll inspect, maintain, test, and repair propellers, turboprop and turboshaft engines, jet engines, small gas turbine engines, and engine ground support equipment. <p>Before that C-130 rolls down the strip, the Air Transportation Specialist makes sure it's packed tight with everything the troops will need to complete missions. From food, water and medical supplies to Humvees and helicopters, you'll be responsible for securely packing cargo so that it can be loaded and transported safely and quickly. You'll even be responsible for checking in passengers and baggage when the cargo is actually military personnel.
