In Afghanistan from September 15th to 2...3rd to participate in a cultural outreach tour sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, the band helped to bridge cultural divides with their irresistible blend of country and rock music from the heart of America.See More
Despite security concerns earlier in the week, the New York City-based group was able to engage diverse audiences in Kabul and at Bagram Air Field through the common language of music. Seated across from traditional music students at the Aga Khan Foundation, drummer Mark Stepro found himself drumming the air and trying to keep up with the whirlwind movements of a young Afghan boy playing the tabla.
Lead singer Mary McBride fought back tears at Bagram Hospital while singing for an audience of injured soldiers and Afghan children, swaying and clapping together to the powerful lyrics of their best known song, "Home." On stage with guitarist Paul Carbonara, bass guitarist Greg Beshers, keyboard player Jon Spurney and drummer Mark Stepro, Mary and the band strived to connect with the Afghan community through shared love of music and found outlets to have their voices heard through radio, TV and other live performances.
Ariana TV will be airing the concert in a special feature segment in October.
