The Global Information Grid - commonly referred to as "the GIG" - is the combination of technology and human activity that enables our warfighters to access the information they need, when they need it.
We at DISA believe:
- A robustly networked force improves information sharing
- Information sharing enhances the quality of information and shared situational awareness
- Shared situational awareness enables collaboration and self-synchronization, and enhances sustainability and speed
- These, in turn, dramatically increase mission effectiveness.
It is this logic that drives our initiative to plan, design, construct, and analyze the effectiveness of the U.S. military's cyberspace. In addition, we establish the technological standards that make the GIG secure and reliable. We strive to rapidly and continuously roll-out improvements, ensuring information superiority for the United States and our coalition partners.
