Generator sets, air conditioners, hydraulic test stands, air compressors, bomb lifts, heaters this is just some of the equipment that stays put on the ground when an F-22 or A-10 is in the air on a mission. The Air National Guard requires a lot of Aerospace Ground Equipment to keep its aircraft in peak condition, and it's the job of the Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialist to make sure those tools are in always in tip-top shape. In order to repair and maintain this complicated technological equipment, you'll receive extensive training and become an expert in your field.
Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialists are specially trained in:
- Principles of electricity, electronics, general mechanics, heating, refrigeration, pneumatics, hydraulics, and reciprocating and turbine engines
- Troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and modifying equipment
- Use of automated maintenance systems
- Application of maintenance management techniques
- Interpretation of maintenance directives, technical publications, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics
- Proper identification, handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste materials
- Normal color vision
After eight-and-a-half weeks of Basic Military Training, every Airman goes to technical training to learn their career. Training school locations and length can vary by position; please contact your recruiter for this information.
