COS Colonel Robert H. Risberg

COL Robert H. Risberg is a resident of Florida and graduated from Stetson University, Deland, Florida, in May 1985 as a ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate, commissioned in the Field Artillery. After attending the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 15th Field Artillery, 2d Infantry Division, Korea, where he served as a Company Fire Support Officer and Battery Fire Direction Officer. From January 1987 to January 1990, COL Risberg was assigned to 1st Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, Colorado, serving as a Battalion Fire Support Officer, Cannon Battery Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, and as the Battalion S4.

Following the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course at Fort Sill, COL Risberg was assigned to the 3d Armored Division Artillery, Hanau, Germany, as the Division Artillery Fire Control Officer in Germany and in Southwest Asia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. From November 1991 to November 1992, COL Risberg commanded Battery B, 25th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) Artillery at Grafenwohr, Germany. From November 1992 to November 1994, he was assigned to the Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany, as a Fire Support Analyst and as the Direct Support Field Artillery Battalion Operations Observer/Controller on the Vampire Fire Support Observer/Controller Team.

From November 1994 to November 1996, COL Risberg was assigned to 1st Brigade, 78th Division (Exercise), Edison, New Jersey, as an Active Component/Reserve Component Operations Officer. From November 1996 to June 2003, he was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, serving as a Corps G3 Joint Exercise Plans Officer, as the Corps Artillery Deputy G3, the S3 of 1st Battalion (Air Assault), 377th Field Artillery Regiment, the S3 of 18th Field Artillery Brigade (Airborne), and as the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery G3.

From June 2003 to June 2006, COL Risberg commanded 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia. During this command tour, he also commanded Task Force 1-10 FA (Maneuver and Fires), in Baqubah, Iraq from January 2005 to January 2006, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 3. From July 2006 to July 2007, COL Risberg served as the Senior Fires Battalion and Fire Support Trainer (Wolf 07), Operations Group, The National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.

From July 2008 to June 2010, COL Risberg commanded the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During this command tour, he also commanded Task Force Operations, Joint Task Force Civil Support, United States Northern Command from October 2009 to June 2010.

From July 2010 to May 2011, COL Risberg served as the Chief of Staff, J9 Directorate (Strategic Effects), United States Forces Iraq, Baghdad, Iraq.

COL Risberg assumed duty as the Chief of Staff, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas on 1 July 2011.

COL Risberg has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stetson University, a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Masters of Science in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

COL Risberg�s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (with OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 OLCs), the Army Commendation Medal (with 5 OLCs), the Army Achievement Medal (with 1 OLC), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 3 Battle Stars), the Iraqi Campaign Medal (2nd award), the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal � Saudi Arabia, the Kuwait Liberation Medal � Kuwait, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Wings, and the Air Assault Badge.
