Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan,  will present a three-day workshop on March 8- 10, 2010 to introduce restoration processes of historic metals using electric arc welding, heat straightening, and hot riveting processes.  This workshop was funded in part through the PTT Grants program.

Registration cost for one day is $125 or attend all three days for $325. Register by Feb. 10, 2010, and the cost is $250 for all three days!  Last day to register is Feb. 24, 2010.  Register for this workshop by calling (517) 483-9853, or by mailing or faxing the Registration form to Lansing Community College.

  • Methods for heating steel rivets
  • Rivet hammer safety
  • Driving rivets using field riveting equipment
  • Pack rust removal and rivet removal
  • Heat straightening wrought iron and steel

Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 8 a.m.  to 5 p.m.

Shop lectures followed by demonstrations on each of the following processes and their applications for restoration of historic metals:

  • OFW (Oxygen Fuel Welding and Brazing)
  • SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
  • ACA (Air Carbon Arc Gouging)
  • GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
  • FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
