USCIS Says: Continue to Use Current I-9 Form

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services wants employers to continue using the current Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with an expiration date of August 31, 2012, until a revised form is issued. USCIS is considering comments on its proposed revisions to the form.

GSA Freezes Per Diems for 2013

The General Services Administration will set 2013 per diem travel reimbursement rates at 2012 levels to reduce federal employee travel costs by 30% from 2010. Employers can reimburse employees' business travel expenses at the federal per diem rates without requiring detailed substantiation or including the reimbursements in income.

New York Allows More Wage Deductions

Effective November 6, New York law permits employers to use wage deductions to recover erroneous wage overpayments and salary advances. Also, there are additional categories of wage deductions. The only downside to the new law (A.B. 10785)? It expires in 3 years (on November 6, 2015).

Seattle Paid Sick Leave Law Takes Effect

As of September 1, employers in Seattle, Wash. must provide paid sick leave to employees. The amount is based on the size of the employer. The Seattle Office for Civil Rights enforces the law and provides information for employers.
