19 April 2012: Accreditation Information for Journalists Covering Chicago NATO Summit

Canadian journalists covering the Chicago NATO Summit do not require a journalist "I" visa to enter the United States. They may travel to the United States as they normally do for professional reasons.

Organizers of the NATO Summit will require that journalists show either an "I" visa OR an I-94 card and ID in order to obtain press credentials for the Summit. The I-94 must show that the holder was admitted in "I" status, i.e. as a journalist on assignment.

Canadian journalists normally receive an I-94 at the U.S. Port of Entry from the Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP). They should carry their media credentials and a letter from their employer assigning them to the NATO Summit, present these to the CBP officer at the Port of Entry, and request that the officer indicate "I" status on their I-94.
