Fort Hood Wins New Chapel Family Life Center
06/16/09
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Fort Hood was approved for a new $8.5 million Chapel Family Life Center today in House Appropriations Committee Action, thanks to a powerful bipartisan push by Central Texas legislators John Carter (R-Round Rock) and Chet Edwards (D-Waco).
"This is great news for Ft. Hood and Central Texas, and I am happy that these funds were included in the markup of this Appropriations bill," Carter said. "Funding for the construction of this chapel family life center was crucial to the creation of the Religious and Family Readiness Center at Ft. Hood, which provides invaluable services to our soldiers and their families. It was a pleasure to work with my good friend and Co-Chairman of the House Army Caucus, Chairman Chet Edwards, to secure these funds, and I look forward to our continued work to make Ft. Hood the best instillation for soldiers and their families," Carter added.
Other Ft. Hood projects included in the Military Construction/Veterans Affairs Subcommittee markup were $3 million for an After Fuel Pump and Fill Stand, $2.4 million for an Urban Assault Course, $23 million for a vehicle maintenance shop, and $6.7 million for an automated machine gun range.
