Sgt. James M. Mercure

Colonel Peter Ponte, the former commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, passes the squadron colors to Lt. Col. Michael Sobkowski, the incoming commanding officer, during their change of command ceremony, Aug. 7. Sobkowski, the former executive officer of VMFA-251 assumed command of the Thunderbolts after Ponte was selected for duty at the Pentagon.
