AUTHORIZATION: Section 22 of the Water Resources Development Act (“WRDA”) of 1974 (Public Law 93-251), as amended, Planning Assistance to States, (PAS)

 

 

TYPE OF PROJECT: Master Plan, (PAS)

 

LOCATION:

·   White Oak Creek Watershed in Hardin, Henderson, McNairy, and Chester counties, Tenn.

·   West Sandy Creek Watershed in Henry County, Tenn.

·CONGRESSIONAL INTEREST:  Fincher (TN-08), Blackburn (TN-07),  Alexander (TN), Corker (TN)

 

NON-FEDERAL SPONSOR: State of Tennessee (WTRBA)

 

BACKGROUND: The West Tennessee Basin Authority (WTRBA), a Division of TDEC, requested Nashville District assistance through the Planning Assistance to States (PAS) program. These studies will focus on the development of master plans to address erosion issues in these watersheds which severely impact the downstream ecosystems.

 

IMPORTANCE:

·   Two of the most impacted and ecologically significant watersheds in the West Tennessee basin will be evaluated for potential treatment solutions.

·   Solution for control of sediment loss upstream will allow specific actions to be taken in the bottomland hardwood ecosystems in the lower watersheds of these streams.

 

STATUS:

·  Scope of Works finalized for both studies.

·  White Oak Creek will be complete second quarter FY 2013.

·  West Sandy Creek will be complete fourth quarter FY 2013.

SCHEDULE:

 

FY2012 Scheduled Work: Investigations complete.

FY2013 Scheduled Work: Complete studies and final reports.

 

Completion:  The Corps has committed full funding to this project and master plans are estimated to be completed in 2013.
