Technical Assistance for States
NREL technical assistance helps states identify ways to reduce fossil fuel use and implement clean energy technology solutions, which can serve as a model for other locations with similar climates and energy challenges. This technical assistance includes:
- Renewable energy, energy efficiency, and technical assessments
- Technical specifications development for requests for proposals and performance contracting
- Analysis of the design and structure of revolving loan funds, loan loss reserves, credit mechanisms, and leveraging private investment
- Strategic planning and energy management
- State, local, federal, and financial policy analysis
- Trainings, workshops, webinars, and more.
State and Local Activities
State and local communities throughout the United States can use NREL's technical assistance and technology deployment programs expertise to support renewable energy and energy-saving projects that help meet their clean energy goals. Visit the State and Local Activities website to learn more.
State Project Examples
NREL's comprehensive integrated deployment model has been applied in states such as Alaska and Hawaii to help meet clean energy goals.
Alaska
To help alleviate the highest energy prices in the nation, NREL provides strategic technical support to reduce diesel fuel use in Alaskan villages, partners with other federal agencies and research entities to conduct clean energy policy analysis, and monitors the performance of energy-efficient buildings while verifying unique technology solutions for use in cold climates.
Hawaii
NREL's on-site technical expertise, technology deployment, project assistance, and policy analysis helps Hawaii's state energy office develop renewable resources and reach their goal of 70% clean energy by 2030 through the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative—a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Hawaii.
