Free or Low-Cost Care: Annie-Care
MyCare is an initiative to educate Americans about new programs, benefits, and rights under the health care law. It features people like Annie, who work at community health centers that improve health care in communities that need it most.
Annie-Care: Free or Low-Cost Care at Community Health Centers
Annie N: The Affordable Car Act has made a tremendous difference to the patients that we see - in their own lives, in the lives of their families and in the lives of the individuals in this community.
The Jessie Trice Community Health Center is a Federally qualified primary care center that’s located in central and northern Miami Dade County.
Miami is a multicultural center and certainly our Center reflects that in terms of the patients that we serve and also of the care team, of the staff that we have on board.
Jessie Trice is an important part of this community. We served last year, over 30,000 individuals and those individuals had over 120,000 visits.
I walk around the Jessie Trice Community Health Center and say to myself ‘are we providing excellent, quality affordable care for those individuals?'
The Affordable Car Act has had tremendous benefit for many of the individuals that we serve.
It has impacted the lives of those individuals who now don’t have to wait because they don’t have the co-payment to get a mammogram or those individuals who wait and say ‘I’m not gonna go get that flu shot because it’s gonna cost me $20 up front.’And these have been real life stories.
Doctor: Is that OK if I listen to your chest?
Patient: Sure.
Annie: We have seen our Medicare population be able to go in and get preventive services without having to pay those co-payments and those deductibles.
We want to see individuals staying out of the Emergency Rooms and out of the hospitals and the Affordable Care Act is certainly beginning to show us that that can be done.
Doctor: See you tomorrow.
Annie: The Health Care Law is about people like me. It's Annie Care.
