Louise Kelton was nominated U. S Marshal for the Middle District of Tennessee by President Barack Obama on February 4, 2012 and confirmed by Senate on January 1, 2013.

Louise Kelton joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department as an officer trainee on August 16, 1980. Kelton was promoted to sergeant in 1987, lieutenant in 1989, and captain in 2004. She was appointed commander of the North Precinct in May 2004, and, for four years, directed the police department’s patrol and investigative operations in the Bordeaux, Madison, and Joelton areas of Nashville. On October 16, 2008, Kelton was appointed Deputy Chief over the Investigative Services Bureau comprised of Criminal and Specialized Investigations, Domestic Violence, Youth Services, Warrants, Fugitive and Identification. In October 2010, Deputy Chief Kelton assumed responsibility for the Field Operations Bureau, which included seven police precincts, Mounted Horse Patrol, Special Operations, (Traffic, Canine, Aviation, School Crossing Guard, SWAT and Emergency Contingency), School Resource Officers and Special Events.
