Personnel Location

The Force Protection / Emergency Response (FP/ER) Laboratory is currently working with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) to develop a real-time system which will give fire department officers the ability to rapidly determine if all of their firefighters are accounted for during an emergency operation.  To date, the multi-phase project has successfully demonstrated the practicability of a pilot system in brutal daily use with an FDNY engine company.

Future phases, as they are approved by FDNY, will resolve how to most efficiently transfer electronically-gathered ‘tour' information from a responding engine or ladder vehicle to FDNY's data center, deploy the production system throughout the fire department, and make the information available on the Electronic Command Board.
