Amble Through the Ramble: Pass over streams, under arches, and through the woods along a maze of pathways in this secluded 38-acre woodland respite. Meet at the Belvedere Castle in Central Park (Mid-park about 79th Street), Manhattan, on Friday, August 3, at 12:30 p.m. for an hour long adventure.

Dog Days of Summer Hike: Come hike with your canine companion before the heat of the day sets in. Learn the trails on this moderate hike through the woods while meeting likeminded people and their four-legged friends. Sunday, August 5, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Greenbelt Nature Center in Blood Root Valley. 700 Rockland Ave at Brielle Ave, Staten Island.

Jamaican Independence Celebration: Who knew you could get to the West Indies by going to Queens? This Friday dance your way over to the Queens Museum of Art to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Independence for Jamaica and Trinidad in Tobago. The event starts on Friday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. There will be dancing, music, and the showing of a film titled “Fire in Babylon”. Queens Museum of Art, New York City Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens.

Learn How to Play Petanque: Ever wanted to learn how to play Petanque? Or even find out what it is, exactly? Here’s your chance: On Friday, August 3, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Petanque Courts in Bryant Park, Manhattan, the La Boule New Yorkaise, NYC’s championship winning team, will teach you how to play this popular European game.

Lion King on Roosevelt Island: Venture out to Southpoint Park on Roosevelt Island to watch the Lion King, Saturday, August 4, at 8 p.m. It’s summer, why not? Hakuna Matata.

Remove Invasive Plants: Join the Van Cortlandt Park Nature Center in removing invasive plants that are spreading through the park. Layers, shoes, long pants and long sleeves are highly recommended. Saturday, August 4, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Enter Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, at 246th Street and Broadway.

Story Hour: Gather around the Peter and Willy statue at the Imagination Playground and be transported into another world during the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation’s story hour. Saturday, August 4, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Imagination Playground, Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
