Dog Days of Summer Hike: Come hike with your canine companion before the heat of the day sets in. Learn the trails on this moderate hike through the woods while meeting likeminded people and their four-legged friends. Sunday, August 5, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Greenbelt Nature Center in Blood Root Valley. 700 Rockland Ave at Brielle Ave, Staten Island.
Jamaican Independence Celebration: Who knew you could get to the West Indies by going to Queens? This Friday dance your way over to the Queens Museum of Art to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Independence for Jamaica and Trinidad in Tobago. The event starts on Friday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. There will be dancing, music, and the showing of a film titled “Fire in Babylon”. Learn How to Play Petanque: Ever wanted to learn how to play Petanque? Or even find out what it is, exactly? Here’s your chance: On Friday, August 3, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Petanque Courts in Bryant Park, Manhattan, the La Boule New Yorkaise, NYC’s championship winning team, will teach you how to play this popular European game.
