First Sergeant DeAngelo Williams

Born in Walterboro South Carolina, First Sergeant Williams enlisted in the Marine Corps on 27 August 1990. He attended recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina and graduated Honor Man for platoon 3104 in November of 1990. At the completion of graduation he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger located in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After completion of Marine Combat Training, First Sergeant Williams was assigned to 2nd Light Armored

Reconnaissance Battalion 2d Marine Division Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he received on the job training as a Communications Field Wireman. After six months of on the job training, First Sergeant Williams was reassigned to Headquarters Battalion, Communications Company, 2d Marine Division where he later attended MOS school. In October of 1991 First Sergeant Williams was ordered to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, 1st Marine Air Wing Okinawa, Japan.

During his one year tour with MWCS-18, First Sergeant Williams filled various billets such as field wireman, squad leader, patrol leader, and rear area security instructor. Upon completion of his tour in Okinawa, First Sergeant Williams was then transferred to 8th Motor Transport Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in October of 1992. While assigned to 8th Motors, First Sergeant Williams was assigned to numerous Combat Service Support Detachments in support of such operations as Combined Arms Exercise ¾- 93, Combined Arms Exercise ¾- 94 and JTF-6, assisting the liberation of Haiti in 1995.

In January of 1996 First Sergeant Williams then a Corporal, returned to Parris Island as a Drill Instructor student where he later graduated in July and was assigned to Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. During his tour as a Drill Instructor First Sergeant Williams was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In July of 1998 First Sergeant Williams was assigned to 1st Battalion 6th Marines 2d Marine Division as the Wire Chief and Platoon Sergeant for the Communications Platoon.

During his tour with 1/6, First Sergeant Williams participated in such deployments as UDP Okinawa Japan, Mountain Warfare Training Bridgeport California, Combined Arms Exercise 3-00 and Combined Arms Exercise 3-02. While assigned to the 1st Battalion First Sergeant Williams held such billets as Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor , Non-Lethal Weapons and Tactics Instructor and battalion Drill Master. In March of 2002 First Sergeant Williams was reassigned to 5th Battalion 10th Marines 2d Marine Division as the Wire Chief and Platoon Sergeant for Headquarters Battery, Communications Platoon.

During his tour with 5/10, First Sergeant Williams participated in such exercises as Rolling Thunder 1-03, Rolling Thunder 2-03, Rolling Thunder 1-04 and Combined Arms Exercise ¾ -04. In August 2004 First Sergeant Williams reported to 7th Communications Battalion, Okinawa Japan. There he served a one year tour as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company B. In September of 2005 First Sergeant Williams joined 3rd Battalion 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division.

He later volunteered to be a part of the newly formed Military Transition Team (MiTT). In April 2006 he and his ten man team deployed to Iraq and were embedded with the 3rd Battalion 1st Brigade 7th Iraqi Army Division. During his tenure with 3-1-7, First Sergeant Williams served as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant and Company Advisor while participating in numerous counter insurgency and security operations in and around the city of Ramadi.

In March of 2008, First Sergeant Williams was reassigned to serve as Company First Sergeant for Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion-2, 2d Marine Logistics Group. During his tour with TS Company, First Sergeant Williams deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In April 2010, First Sergeant Williams reported to Inspector Instructor Staff, Hotel Battery, 3rd Battalion 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division where he is currently serving.

First Sergeant Williams’ personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2) with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He has an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice
