Information and experience exchange via SKYPE or other communication channels

Teresa DeCristofaro - Margate Community Emergency Response Team (6 weeks ago)  Reply

The Margate Florida CERT team would like to reach out to the many CERT teams that were activated during Super Storm Sandy to set up a meeting via SKYPE or some other visual audo means so that we can discuss your successes and challenges that you encountered during your activation.  We feel that a meaningful exchange between CERT teams will be beneficial to all so that we may learn and grow to become a more unified force in each of our communities and the Country as a whole. Please contact me if you are interested in such a discussion so that we can make arrangements.

This is an excellent concept you've initiated here. I will pass on participating on this one only because I was not a participant in Sandy and I believe your bandwidth and numbers of participants will quickly max out. But please take notes and publish your results on the problems of implementing this form of live forum discussions. We can use your idea in many ways here.

Your idea provides a good way to eliminate the apparent problems of FEMA oversight while bringing together persons of shared-interests.

Good luck and give us all some feedback on the set-up and online implementation problems you run into, please.

:-)

Also, here is a group of church volunteers that you may want to link in to your Skype discussion. I tried to link them to you but could not seem to find a way on their sight to respond. Perhaps you should make contact and bring them into your Skype forum. Since promoting websites are prohibited, I will post this site nonetheless in hopes the credibility of their efforts and nonprofit church status will be recognized by moderators: http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Resources/News-Stories/2013/After-Sandy

Hi Teresa,

Yes.  This is a great idea!  It would definitely be beneficial to facilitate contact between the CERT teams that were activated in Region II and the Margate CERT team.

Thanks!

I think you're on to something superb there Teresa...

If we could join forces/coordinate from an non-effected area with the I.C.at any major disaster we might be better off with the live audio-visual than being onsite given the mixed talents the multitudes of us have at trouble-shooting damage control.

I would like to know if ham radio operators within the CERT groups were activated and if so, how many and how effective in communications assist.
