America Recycles Day

Have you taken the pledge? Are you interested in finding a local event? Don’t know what I’m talking about? It’s America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the country. As we blogged about yesterday, NYC has some sorry statistics when it comes to recycling. Find an event, share your commitment and be part of raising awareness!

I remember when I was growing up in Texas, we used to have to drive out of town in order to recycle – using gas and contributing to climate change while trying to do good!  Today it’s supposed to be easier with most major metropolitan areas offering curbside recycling, but the numbers are still gloomy. In 2009, the average individual generated 4.34 pounds of waste per day. With rates like that, recycling the occasional plastic bottle doesn’t seem that significant. How can we really make a difference? Does your office have paper recycling? Your child’s school?
