rollDC Earns New Funding from District of Columbia to Continue Service for People with Disabilities
District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray and Councilmember Mary Cheh announced today that D.C. has secured $375,000 in funding to match a federal grant and ensure that the rollDC pilot continues to provide wheelchair accessible taxi service to the public.

New Plan and Request Highlight Improving Air Quality
After years of coordinated actions by area officials, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia are formally asking EPA to redesignate this region as meeting its fine particle standards. Public hearings are being held February 19, 20, and 25. The draft fine particles plan and redesignation request are available for download and public comment.

Region to Conduct Annual Count of Homeless Population
Area governments and homeless service providers will begin conducting the annual enumeration or count of the metropolitan Washington region’s homeless population at area shelters. Some of the street and unsheltered count will take place on Thursday due to forecasted inclement weather.

Study Reveals Area Residents’ Opinions on Congestion Pricing, Transportation Funding
A new TPB study, What do People Think About Congestion Pricing?, indicates that metropolitan Washington's residents are more open to better-known solutions for raising revenue and reducing congestion, such as adding toll lanes and increasing the gas tax.

COG Strongly Supports FCC Move to Develop Mandatory Rules Governing Support for 9-1-1 Service
The FCC concluded that the failure of Verizon and other telephone companies to provide sufficient, dependable back-up power and their failure to adequately monitor the transmission networks serving local 9-1-1 call centers was responsible for outages following the derecho storm in June.  The report also said the telecommunications carriers had failed to adopt the voluntary actions the agency has recommended for years.
