SDO Launch Summary
Launch Wrap up
The Solar Dynamics Observatory's Formal Education launch project saw the participation of over 120 registered classrooms, 200 teachers, and over 2,000 students. Through the use of social media classrooms all over the world were invited to join in viewing SDO's launch. Teachers received a classroom launch kit, educator's guide and instructions on how to interact with the SDO team.
On launch day SDO scientist Phil Chamberlin answered student questions on the DLN broadcast and Twitter Correspondents spoke with students from the launch viewing site. Classroom participation ranged from outdoor solar observations, to interdisciplinary activities, SDO chants, discussions of space exploration and whole-school launch parties.
