Olympic lessons

Master Sgt. (Ret.) Edwin Beck, speaks to an audience of approximately 200 at the base auditorium April 21 while Lt. Col. (Ret.) Bill Sheaves Jr. (right) listens. Sergeant Beck and Colonel Sheaves supported the Air Force’s Year of Leadership program by speaking to Peterson Airmen on the importance of character. Both men are World War II and Korean Conflict veterans. Colonel Sheaves is also a Vietnam War veteran. Colonel Sheaves and Sergeant Beck are both prior prisoner’s of war. Fifth CMSAF visits Peterson

Former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert Gaylor speaks at the Peterson Auditorium March 26. Approximately 200 Airmen braved snowfall and high winds to attend the event, during which Chief Gaylor discussed the importance of face-to-face communication in an age of increasing technology. Compassion ever present at Thule Air Base

Julemand, or "Santa Claus" in Danish, hands a present to a girl during Qaanaaq, Greenland's, Julemand celebration in Qaanaaq Dec. 20. A year of fundraising at Thule, called Operation Julemand, culminates in this event where nearly 300 gifts are given out and thousands of dollars donated to local communities. Started in 1959, Operation Julemand is a humanitarian program organized and supported by all members of Team Thule – American, Danish, Greenlandic and Canadian - to give back to the local Greenlandic community. Members of Team Thule flew to Qaanaaq to participate in the celebration which included a visit from Santa, singing and gift exchange. Three other Inuit villages also receive money from Operation Julemand donations (Photos by 1st Lt. Lisa Meiman).

Cookies for the Troops
