The 400 Area is home to the Fast Flux Test Facility, which CH2M HILL has placed into minimum surveillance and maintenance mode. While FFTF may be cold and dark, CH2M HILL’s engineering teams are using facilities in the 400 Area to help solve the sludge treatment issue being faced by the Sludge Treatment Project. At FFTF’s Maintenance and Storage Facility (MASF) building, workers are practicing with full-scale mockups of equipment that will be deployed at the K West Basin. MASF is a large bay building that houses an array of full-scale non-radioactive testing capabilities for many different mechanical and electrical mock-ups.
