189th Airlift Wing

The 189th provides aircrew training for the C-130 for all branches of the military and for 23 foreign countries. The unit operates the C-130 Tactical Airlift Instructor School, where aircrew instructors are trained to they can return to their units and keep members combat ready. The wing also operates the Air National Guard Enlisted Aircrew Academic School, which provides entry-level training for C-130 loadmasters before they are sent to the 314th Airlift Wing for mission qualification training, as well as entry-level flight engineer training. Members of the 189th flew in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Noble Eagle.

<p>Before that C-130 rolls down the strip, the Air Transportation Specialist makes sure it's packed tight with everything the troops will need to complete missions. From food, water and medical supplies to Humvees and helicopters, you'll be responsible for securely packing cargo so that it can be loaded and transported safely and quickly. You'll even be responsible for checking in passengers and baggage when the cargo is actually military personnel. <p>You can go anywhere in the world as a Knowledge Operations Management Specialist in the Air National Guard. You'll be in charge of all the data that comes in and goes out of your department, and be responsible for making sure that information is in the right hands at the right time. You'll use the latest technological equipment to organize and share important military information. <p>As a Mobility Pilot, you'll master all aspects of advanced aviation and use those skills to fly C-130 Hercules aircraft, transporting everything from cargo to passengers to destinations all over the world. In this role, you'll perform navigation, in-flight refueling, and cargo and passenger delivery. You'll plan and prepare for missions; review mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; and brief your crew.  You'll ensure your aircraft is preflighted, inspected, loaded, equipped, and manned for mission. <p>In an Air National Guard unit, planes are landing and taking off all the time. You never know when you'll need a clear runway at a moment's notice for an emergency mission. That's why Airfield Management Specialists are vitally important to the operation of an Air Guard unit. As an Airfield Management Specialist, you are one of the primary responders to in-flight and ground emergencies, and you'll be responsible for the removal or dispersal of birds and wildlife on or near the airfield using pyrotechnics or bioacoustics to scare the threat off the airfield environment. The Airfield Management Specialist is also responsible for issuing Notices to Airmen for flight hazards or restrictions at your airfield or in your airspace that would pose safety problems to pilots flying to your airfield or through the airspace.</p><p>Airfield Management Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>International Civil Aviation Organization</li><li>United States federal and military air regulation</li><li>Aeronautical charts, maps, and publications</li><li>Flight data and NOTAM systems</li><li>Familiarity of navigational aids</li><li>Basic aircraft design characteristics</li><li>Fundamentals of meteorology</li><li>Principles of organization, purpose, operation, and management of airfield operational areas</li><li>Must maintain Secret security clearance</li><li>Normal color vision</li></ul> Airfield Management
