Time to Plan the Weekend! Eco-Friendly Activities to Get you Outdoors

Summer isn’t over yet – get out and take advantage of the last (yikes!) weekend in August!

America’s Most Wanted Eco-Poster: Join the discussion as the audience participates with a team of designers to create an eco-poster in real time. Electronic copies of the resulting image will be distributed at the event and on a website afterwards. Governors Island, Building 110, Saturday, August 25, 2-5 p.m.

Bird Banding at Garden City Bird Sanctuary: Learn how scientists study birds by watching how they band birds and get to see a variety of bird species up close! Read our previous blog post here. Tanner’s Pond Environmental Center, Saturday, August 25, beginning at 8 a.m.

Bryant Park Juggling: Find out how coordinated you really are with free juggling lessons in the park. All skill levels welcome and equipment is provided. Friday, August 24, 1-3 p.m.

Educational Hike: Head to Staten Island for a moderate hike led by park educators. Learn about the behavior and habitat of white tailed deer while hiking through their neighborhood in Deere Park. Sunday, August 26, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Macy’s Fishing Clinic: Children 15 and under can learn about the recreational sport of fishing and fish-friendly techniques while casting their lines in Prospect Park. Saturday, August 25, 1 and 3 p.m.

Tree Care Event: Come out and help unify and beautify W. 150^th Street. Join the fun for a day of tree care activities, tree guard building and children’s crafts. Saturday, August 25, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Ukrainian Folk Dancing: Take advantage of one of those things you could probably only do in New York – learn traditional Ukrainian folk dancing on a boardwalk with a view of the ocean. Brighton Beach Boardwalk, Sunday, August 26, 3-6 p.m.

Waterfront Workouts: It’s the last chance to get your Zumba on in Brooklyn Bridge Park this summer! Sunday, August 26, 4-5 p.m.
