Example Program

SUBJECT: Safety Day

  1. Purpose: To provide Leaders different ideas about safety day activities
  2. Facts: Use of dynamic, interesting discussions by accident survivors, emergency service personnel, members of the chain of command, etc. with real life stories and examples can make a difference in high risk decision  making
    1. Targeted Goals
      1.  Provides Soldiers with important safety information to include POV/POM
      2.  Periodically reminds Soldiers of vehicle safety considerations
      3.  Disseminates new/updated policies/information
      4.  Maximize use of briefing and discussion format rather than briefing only
    2. Examples of Safety Day activities/materials/etc on POV safety
      1. Have Leaders and individuals complete the off-line version of TRiPS to identify their risk of having a POV accident and to identify controls to reduce their risk
      2. Have Soldiers complete the safety_quiz prior to covering POV safety topics to provide them with feedback on their POV safety knowledge
      3. Teach Soldiers how to complete the on-line TRIPS POV Risk Assessment Tool
      4. Have Soldiers flip through and discuss different chapters found in the Motorcycle Safety Guide if they own or are thinking of buying a motorcycle prior to covering motorcycle safety
      5. Show video tapes (see attached link)
      6. Find information for use in developing activities and overall safety information available for dissemination by Leaders on the Army Safety Website
      7. Use the Seat Belt Convincer to demonstrate impact forces and benefits of safety restraints.  Contact your local Safety Office, Public Affairs Office or Military Police for information on local availability
      8. Have humorous skits performed on POV safety topics or conduct seminars
