Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  The incumbent will contribute to research and development of the superconducting devices associated with the APS Upgrade. The individual will take responsibility of developing the commissioning planning and technical acceptance criteria for the superconducting undulator and superconducting radio frequency modules for the Advanced Photon Source. In developing the acceptance criteria, the incumbent will work with the design team in the design of the components and test hardware, and in conducting reviews to ensure the effort is technically sound.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive knowledge in applied mechanics and cryogenics.
  Considerable
Considerable experience in the use of CAD software such as ProEngineer or SolidWorks, and FEA software such as ANSYS. Considerable experience with commissioning and operation of accelerator systems, including cryogenic systems, preferably related to superconducting magnets or RF technology. Considerable experience with mechanical cryocoolers is desired.
  Other
Minimum of 8 to 12 years of engineering experience in accelerator system design and manufacture. Practical experience in superconducting magnet or superconducting RF technology is a plus. Practical experience in the installation and commissioning of hardware is a plus. Knowledge of ASME boiler pressure vessel codes is a plus.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents
