Security & Travel
General Information
The U.S. Embassy attempts to disseminate information to the American community in Pakistan whenever there is a credible and specific threat to U.S. citizens or U.S. interests. We also provide guidance of a general nature to help U.S. citizens living in Pakistan make prudent personal security choices. We do not, however, attempt to provide specific day-to-day updates on demonstration activity, traffic, or other disruptions in Islamabad.
Frequent Demonstrations
There are frequent demonstrations in the city, particularly around the markets in the G-6 sector and near Constitution Avenue. Because of short advance notice from local authorities, information regarding various gatherings is often obsolete before it can even be posted on our website. Americans are encouraged to stay on the lookout and to avoid large gatherings, as demonstrations often take on an anti-American or anti-Western character.
