About Our School
The Pierce Terrace School building was built in the early 1970's to service the youngest school age children on Fort Jackson – kindergarten, first, and second grade pupils. Its construction was modeled after the open space school concepts of the time so that all classrooms could be opened and connected to make larger learning spaces. The building was also designed to serve when necessary as an additional bomb shelter on Post and still serves the community as a severe weather shelter. The building has been well maintained and landscaped and now serves all kindergarten and first grade pupils on Fort Jackson plus two sessions of prek – approximately 300 pupils. To minimize distraction and facilitate learning, walls between classrooms have been added with connecting doors. In 2005, a four classroom addition was constructed - (two Pre-kindergarten classrooms and two special service classrooms).
