Dear Mr. Chairman:

This is to inform you that Commitment 225 of the Implementation Plan (IP) for the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2000-1, Revision 2, Stabilization and Storage of Nuclear Material, has been completed.

Commitment 225 was to complete disposition of pre-existing enriched uranium solution and enriched uranium solution resulting from Mk-16/22 Spent Nuclear Fuel dissolution at the Savannah River Site. This work was completed on June 22, 2005, by the dissolution and blend-down of high enriched uranium to low enriched uranium (LEU) and subsequent shipment of the LEU to the Tennessee Valley Authority. This was accomplished 3 months ahead of the September 2005 commitment identified in the IP.

If you have any further questions, please call me at (202) 586-0738 or call Dr. Robert Goldsmith, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Integrated Safety Management and Operations Oversight, at (301) 903-4954.

Sincerely,
