This letter is to inform you that Commitments 202, 210, and 213 of Revision 2 to the Implementation Plan for Stabilization and Storage of Nuclear Material for the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2000-l (July 2002) have been completed.

 

-         Commitment 202:Completed converting pre-existing H-Canyon plutonium-239 solution to oxide on July 30, 2002.In addition to stabilizing plutonium to oxide, a large fraction of the H-Canyon plutonium solution was successfully transferred to the high-level waste system for vitrification through the Defense Waste Processing Facility.

 

-         Commitment 210:The Savannah River Site commenced converting plutonium residue solution to oxide on September 20, 2002.Plutonium residue dissolution/disposition is on schedule to be completed by September 2005.

 

-         Commitment 213:Completed the transfer of americium/curium solution to the high-level waste system on January 29, 2003.The americium/curium solution will be vitrified with high-level waste through the Defense Waste Processing Facility the same as the H-Canyon plutonium solution.
