May is Asthma Awareness Month – CDC
Asthma is one of the most common lifelong chronic diseases. There are about 25 million Americans living with asthma. This page addresses environmental triggers, public health measures to successfully fight asthma, and includes patient teaching materials and clinician resources.
May is Hepatitis Awareness Month – CDC
One of the main findings from last year’s Institute of Medicine (IOM) report was the public and health care professionals lacked knowledge and awareness about viral hepatitis.
CDC Crisis and Emergency Risk Communications (CERC)

CDC’s CERC course serves those who will perform crisis and risk communication and media relations in the event of a public health emergency, when health-related decisions must be made under time constraints, and the timely and planned exchange of information is critical.

218 Cases of Salmonella Typhimurium Associated with Pet Frogs – CDC (April 28)
CDC is collaborating with public health officials in many states to investigate a multistate outbreak of human Salmonella Typhimurium infections associated with African dwarf frogs, a type of water frog. African dwarf frogs commonly live in habitats containing water such as aquariums or fish tanks.

Warnings are issued when long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable lead the State Department to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country, or when the U.S. Government's ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff.
