171st Air Refueling Wing

The 171st Air Refueling Wing is an aerial refueling and air mobility unit that has been located since 1964 at Pittsburgh IAP Air Reserve Station, Pennsylvania. The 171st presently has 16 aircraft assigned, making it one of only three Super Tanker Wings within the Air Guard. Two days of training each month have made it possible for the 171st Air Refueling Wing to compile a distinguished record, with numerous flying safety awards, outstanding unit awards, and national and state citations. The part-time service rendered by these dedicated men and women validates their full-time commitment to this unit and its mission.

<p>Generator sets, air conditioners, hydraulic test stands, air compressors, bomb lifts, heaters this is just some of the equipment that stays put on the ground when an F-22 or A-10 is in the air on a mission. The Air National Guard requires a lot of Aerospace Ground Equipment to keep its aircraft in peak condition, and it's the job of the Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialist to make sure those tools are in always in tip-top shape. In order to repair and maintain this complicated technological equipment, you'll receive extensive training and become an expert in your field. </p><p>Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Principles of electricity, electronics, general mechanics, heating, refrigeration, pneumatics, hydraulics, and reciprocating and turbine engines</li><li>Troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and modifying equipment</li><li>Use of automated maintenance systems</li><li>Application of maintenance management techniques</li><li>Interpretation of maintenance directives, technical publications, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics</li><li>Proper identification, handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste materials</li><li>Normal color vision</li></ul> Aerospace Ground Equipment

<p>Landing gear, brakes, flight controls, weapons, cargo door systems these are the systems that form the foundation of an aircraft's capabilities. As an Aircraft Hydraulic Systems Specialist, you are the backbone of the aircraft maintenance team. You'll be responsible for everything dealing with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. You are the principal advisor for all aircraft when hydraulic issues occur, and you'll be in charge of repairing and maintaining all related ground equipment. <p>Maintaining the equipment, vehicles, and aircraft of the Air National Guard is critical to mission readiness. That's why the Aircraft Maintenance Officer is so vital. Aircraft Maintenance Officers may work at military bases all over the world, providing repairs, delivering combat support, supervising training missions and performing airdrops. Aircraft Maintenance Officers direct all aspects of maintenance operations for aircraft, aircraft components and aviation support equipment, as well as coordinate flying and maintenance schedules. They also inspect aircraft, implement flight line safety programs, supervise weapons loading, and handle requisition and allocation of materials and tools.</p> Aircraft Maintenance
