142nd Fighter Wing
The 142nd Fighter Wing, also known as the Redhawks, serves as part of Air Combat Command and the North American Air Defense System. The unit provides around-the-clock aerospace control alert for the Pacific Northwest airspace and coastal waters from northern California to the Canadian border using F-15 aircraft. The Redhawks support Oregon by fighting wildfires in the summer and responding to floods in the winter and spring. On 9/11, the 142nd Fighter Wing was one of the first units to respond with increased air defense to enhance security on the West Coast. In 2005, the unit provided humanitarian aid in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the 2007 floods in Vernonia, Oregon.
