Schweinfurt, a beautiful
city located in the German State of Bavaria. Our
military community is comprised of Soldiers
primarily assigned to the 172nd Infantry Brigade—the
"Blackhawk" brigade combat team—which
consists of Infantry, Armor, Field Artillery,
Engineer and Logistic battalions; the 1st Squadron,
91st U.S. Cavalry, 15th Engineer Battalion and the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion .
These units are located on two kasernes (Conn and
Ledward Barracks) within the Schweinfurt city
limits. Our installations include a full range of
support organizations including personnel, finance,
medical and dental support, AAFES, DeCA, and DoDDS.

Notable author visits Schweinfurt
Gary Shteyngart, right, notable author of novels and travel pieces, reads to
community members during a writer's workshop held yesterday on Conn
Barracks. The workshop, consisting of a poetry jam, a question and answer
session, book readings and signings, was part of the "Conversations" series
in USAREUR libraries.

The Army is warning Soldiers to avoid unaccredited colleges and universities that offer instant degrees supposedly based on military experience or training.

Youth invited to afterschool fun:
Tom Woditsch, auto skills center program director, prepares to push "The Edge" car into its parking space while Cory McDowell, auto skills center assistant manager releases the hand brake. Teens are invited to learn the skills of a mechanic through The Edge program by fixing up this vehicle throughout September.

Crocodiles dock at chapel for VBS:
Nearly 115 kids attended Vacation Bible School, which ended Aug. 21, with more than 65 volunteers from 11 years old to adult helping to make the chapel event a success.
