The Washington  Regional Office is responsible for delivering non-medical VA benefits and services to veterans and their families.

The VSC  provides outreach services to military personnel through the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) by conducting briefings to all the major military installations in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area including Andrews and Bolling Air Force Bases, and the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.  In addition, they conduct demobilization briefings at the D.C. Armory for DC Army National Guard troops returning from Iraq as well.   As of August 2008, the VSC also assists in the burial mission by processing burial claims from any of the other 56 regional offices.

The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program helps the veterans of Washington, DC and in certain counties of Virginia and Maryland, who have service-connected disabilities by offering them services and assistance to help them prepare for, find, and keep suitable employment.  For veterans with serious service-connected disabilities, VA also offers a program of services to improve their ability to live as independently as possible.    In addition, they provide early intervention and counseling to returning Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) service members at Walter Reed and Bethesda Military Medical Treatment Centers.  OEF/OIF veterans receive early intervention and counseling within days upon arrival to the treatment centers.    In addition, they maintain a very aggressive Coming Home to Work Program (CHTW).  Our office has placed several veterans in Non-Pay Work Experience position in federal government offices throughout Washington, DC.  The Washington VR&E Office also conducts Disabled Transition Assistance Program (DTAP) briefings at several military installations near the DC area, and a quarterly DTAP briefing at the Marine Corp installation in Quantico, VA.
