Thyroid Biopsy:

On arrival, the radiologist and technologist will explain the specifics of the procedure and any potential risks, as well as alternatives. The total time in the Department of Radiology will be approximately 1.5 to 2.0 hours. The total procedure time is approximately 30 minutes, depending on how many nodules require biopsy.

Please withhold any blood thinning medications as follows:
Heparin: Please see your physician to discuss options for management prior to your procedure.

Aspirin: Do not take 7 days prior to the procedure.

Plavix: Do not take 7 days prior to the procedure.

Lovenox: Do not take 24 hours prior to the procedure.

Coumadin: You should discontinue Coumadin 4-5 days prior to the procedure.
Please contact your doctor prior to making changes in this medication.
