Vice Adm. Michelle Howard has a long list of firsts: she is the first African-American woman to achieve a three-star rank in the military, the first to command a Navy warship, and the first female Naval Academy graduate to be selected for Admiral.
No wonder she was recently honored with the Chairman’s Award for her accomplishments by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Howard, who is the deputy commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, sat down with All Hands Update recently to talk about diversity in the military.
