WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released a report showing that the manufacturing sector contracted for a third consecutive month:

“Today’s Institute for Supply Management report, the third in a row showing contraction in our manufacturing sector, reinforces the need for Congress to address manufacturing competitiveness and job growth in a comprehensive way.  Democrats’ Make It In America plan will do just that by investing in education, innovation, and infrastructure to attract well paying manufacturing jobs and keep them here on our shores.

“After months of record manufacturing growth, and at a time when Congress ought to be coming together to pass Make It In America legislation and build on those gains, Republicans have walked away from their responsibility to American manufacturers again and again by refusing to act.  I call on them to set their partisan obstruction aside and work with Democrats to reverse our manufacturing sector’s recent contraction and pursue policies that will help our manufacturers compete, expand, and put more Americans back to work.”
