Situational Awareness Technologies
The Department of Defense (DoD) must have access to critical information to conduct successful military operations. Over time, U.S. military has increasingly become an information-enabled fighting force. Timely reach-back capability to integrate and visualize volumes of data from a variety of sources has become essential to support critical decision-making. To satisfy this need, the Mission Assurance Division (MAD), located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), developed TRITON.
Triton is a scalable web application architecture engineered to integrate and visualize data from many sources on a geographic map. The map interface is dynamic and highly interactive, can be linked to databases of information and near real-time data feeds, shared with other users and annotated for briefings, and integrate imagery on-the-fly and dynamic map services from other organizations. In essence, it provides an information integration environment within a single digital map.
Key Capabilities
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
TRITON was developed using SOA best practices; therefore, enabling the rapid, yet reliable integration of disparate data sources that be could easily be overlaid within the "one-map" interfaces.
Examples of services used in TRITON include:
- Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Mapping Services
- Web Services
- Track Feeds
- Data Services
Imagery On-The-Fly
Provides available imagery - anywhere, anytime without a dedicated expert - through a true thin client, requiring no downloads or plug-ins.
Near Real-Time Tracking
Automatically displays and updates live feeds within the "one-map" interface.
Collaboration Component
An integrated chat capability provides secure collaboration for the portal users without the need for additional plug-ins or downloads.
Graphics Markup Customization
Provides an operational presentation capability within the "one-map" environment.
