Sustainability Vision: Implementing actions to ensure Fort Riley's ability to train and care for Soldiers and Family Members is essential to meet future mission requirements. We must plan and execute actions which enable us to provide necessary forces to the Combatant Commanders while operating in an environment of reduced or limited fiscal and natural resources. Just as we fight as we train, we must train and operate as we fight to become more self-sufficient, and efficient with the resources we have.

To accomplish these goals we must consider the effects of all actions on the "Triple Bottom Line Plus," of Mission, Environment, and Community, plus cost. In doing so we will prudently use all resources such that we do not diminish their availability to meet future requirements, and seek to strengthen our relationships with the surrounding communities to the mutual benefit of the installation and the region. New signs indicating that the Army was going green were put on each side of the 15 2010 Ford Fusion fleet cars at Fort Riley. “We got the signs for going green hybrid just to get the word out to everybody so they can see the Army is trying to save the environment and do whatever they can do,” said Bruce Klaverweiden, transportation fleet manager for garrison. “A normal car like this would probably get 18 to 20 miles per gallon; right now I’m getting 32 to 34 with this one running around post here, so it’ll be a big savings on fuel economy.” (Parker Rome | POST)
