There are no borrowing limits on the number of items that can be checked out at one time.

b. ONE WEEK - for students graduating the following Friday.

c. TWO WEEKS - for permanent party and students here for more than a week.

RENEWALS

Renewals may be made at the Circulation Desk, by phone, e-mail and through our on-line catalog with an Alternate ID and Password PIN. This Pin is randomly generated by the system and the Alternate ID is an optional field that is necessary if you wish to manage your patron account online. For this field you will provide the library an ID of up to 18 characters consisting of letters and/or numbers (no case sensitive). You will need both your Alternate ID and Password Pin to access your account online. If you do not have your PIN account information, please contact the Circulation Desk. If requesting renewal on-line, it is processed through 'My Account.' Under “My Account”, a registered patron can review their account, change their PIN number and renew their materials.

Under normal circumstances, renewals will be honored providing a “Hold” has not been placed on the borrowed library material or the patron’s account is not blocked because of an outstanding overdue item. If either of these instances is present, the renewal request will not be honored and the materials must be returned to the library. A “Hold” can be place on any item in our catalog that is not currently available in the Library and the requestor will be notified when the item is available.

A self-service photocopy machine is available in the library for authorized patron use. The machine will be used within full compliance of the Copyright Law.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services

Through ILL, authorized ALU Library patrons may have access to books, journal articles, periodicals, government publications, videos, and other materials not owned or available from the ALU Library. ILL is not guaranteed since it is entirely up to the holding institution whether or not they will loan their material.

1. AM I ELIGIBLE FOR ILL SERVICES?

ILL services are extended to authorized ALU Library patrons only.

2. WHAT IF I AM NOT A STUDENT OR EMPLOYED IN THE FORT LEE COMMUNITY?

If you are not affiliated with the Fort Lee community you are not eligible for this service. You may be entitled to have access through your local city or county public library system, or through the ILL unit of your own college or university.

3. WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS MAY I REQUEST?

You may use the ALU Library ILL service to request materials for study or research that are Fort Lee mission related.

4. WILL I ALWAYS GET WHAT I ASK FOR?

Be aware that most libraries usually do not lend their reference books, special collection materials, rare or fragile materials, genealogies, non-circulating dissertations, audiovisual media, and periodicals (though most will photocopy requested articles in compliance with copyright laws).

If we cannot obtain your requested materials through ILL, and if these materials would make an important addition to the ALU Library’s existing collections, the librarian may decide to purchase the materials.

5. HOW DO I MAKE AN ILL REQUEST?

It is important that you supply as much information as possible relative to the item you are requesting (title, author, date, edition, volume, etc.). This information should be provided to the ALU Library ILL section by phone, electronic mail, via on-line catalog, or in person.

6. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO OBTAIN MATERIAL THROUGH ILL?

Obtaining material from another library depends on many factors, including the responsiveness and location of the owning libraries and the availability of the desired material. Requests should be submitted as early as possible to allow ample time for the materials to be received.

Therefore, it is difficult to predict how long the process will take for an individual request.  However, the normal time from submission of a request to receipt of material ranges from 4 to 10 working days.

7. HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN THE MATERIAL I REQUESTED ARRIVES?

Library materials are checked out at the Circulation Desk. Books and media material should be returned to the Circulation Desk or in the book drops outside the front library door on each floor.

8. HOW LONG MAY I KEEP ILL MATERIALS?

The lending library establishes loan periods, due dates, renew options, and any restrictions on the use of its materials.

9. MAY I RENEW ILL MATERIALS?

Request for renewals must be made to the ALU Library ILL section at least 2 weeks before the due date. Most lending libraries do not like to extend the loan period of the material because a month generally has been granted with the initial request. Any recall of material from the lending library prior to the due date will be honored.
