B&W Y-12 historian assists in LMU display design

Sharing information related to the early years of Oak Ridge is all in a day’s work for Y‑12 historian Ray Smith. Recently Smith’s flair for historical detail was incorporated in a permanent display on the main campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. Located in LMU’s new Math and Science Building, the display pays tribute to nuclear energy research and the subsequent creation of what is now the U.S. Department of Energy. more...

  • Seven graduate from Y-12 Apprentice Program

    Seven individuals recently graduated from the Y-12 Apprentice Program at a ceremony held at the site’s New Hope Center. Each graduate spent three to four years with a journeyworker and attended between 144 and 246 hours of classroom training each year on his own time, usually in the evenings at local union halls. more...

    Thanks to a Y‑12 National Security Complex aluminum beverage can recycling program, more than 400 local organizations have received a $200 donation from the company since the program’s inception in 1994. Over the years, more than $81,600 from recycling revenue has been donated. more...

  • NNSA Awards Contract for Largest Federal Wind Farm to Siemens Government Technologies, Inc.

    AMARILLO, Texas — The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has awarded a contract to Siemens Government Technologies, Inc., (Siemens) to construct and operate the federal government’s largest wind farm. The Pantex wind farm, a first in the NNSA enterprise, will consist of five 2.3 megawatt turbines located on 1,500 acres of government-owned property east of the Pantex Plant. more...

  • NNSA selects Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC to manage the consolidated contract for Nuclear Production Operations

    In a move that shapes the future of the United States’ nuclear security enterprise and will save $3.27 billion in taxpayer dollars over the next decade, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) today announced that Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS) has been selected to be the management and operating contractor for the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas. The contract also includes construction project management of the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at the Y-12 National Security Complex, and an option for unexercised option for Savannah River Tritium Operations at the Savannah River Site in near Aiken, S.C. more...
