The Coast Guard Logistics Information Management System (CG-LIMS) will help the Coast Guard better manage configuration, maintenance, supply chain and technical data for its assets by migrating legacy logistics systems into a single new one via incremental technical refreshments.

Why this project?

The Coast Guard Logistics Information Management System (CG-LIMS) will incrementally refresh portions of the Asset Logistics Information Management System (ALMIS). By using state-of-the-market, commercial off-the-shelf software applications configured to meet the Coast Guard’s requirements, CG-LIMS will help the service better manage configuration, maintenance, supply chain and technical data for assets currently enrolled in ALMIS.

Configuration management standardizes equipment across similar Coast Guard assets. Maintenance management helps schedule and perform procedures to ensure components, equipment and systems work as intended. Supply chain management guarantees that parts, equipment and supplies are available whenever they are needed for operations and mission support infrastructure. Technical data management organizes and stores documents such as engineering data, technical manuals, drawings and maintenance procedures.

Integrating all of these elements together, CG-LIMS increases asset availability and operational effectiveness while decreasing costs. It also will provide the Coast Guard with timely and accurate information on the location, movement, status and identity of equipment components and supplies, known as total asset visibility.

How is the project implemented?

The CG-LIMS project intentionally separated the competitive selection of the software from the configuration and implementation of the software system. The Coast Guard is serving as the system integrator and will be directly involved in the software’s configuration and deployment, which will take place one product line at a time.

The HC-144A maritime Patrol Aircraft product line will be the first asset to implement CG-LIMS, with other assets that already are enrolled in ALMIS to follow. The project’s first segment provides maintenance and configuration management functionality, and the next segment will provide offline operations. Later areas of focus for functionality will be supply chain management and technical information management.
